Privacy Policy
LoveVow (“we”, “us” or “our”) is an iOS app for couples. This policy explains what information we collect when you use LoveVow, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
The short version:
- Your onboarding answers are private. We use them to personalise your daily vows, and your partner never sees them.
- What you share with your partner is shared only with your partner.
- We don’t show ads, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account.
Who we are
LoveVow is responsible for your personal information when you use the app (in data protection terms, we are the “controller”).

Information we collect
Account information
You sign in to LoveVow with Apple or Google, using Firebase Authentication (a Google service). We receive and store an account identifier, and the name and email address your sign-in provider shares with us. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive a private relay address from Apple instead.
Your onboarding answers
When you set up LoveVow, you tell us about yourself and your relationship: names, the date your relationship started, details about your relationship, your love languages, and answers you write in your own words.
- We store these answers in Google Cloud Firestore, in a private record that only you and the LoveVow server can read.
- Our server uses them to generate your daily vows with Google Gemini on Vertex AI (part of Google Cloud).
- Your partner never sees your answers, and you never see theirs.
Content you create
- Written reflections and voice recordings
- Love notes and reactions
- Moments: photos, captions and dates
We store this content in Google Cloud Firestore and Firebase Storage. Where a feature is shared, your content is shown to your paired partner. Reflections are shown to your partner only once you’ve both shared.
When you add a moment, LoveVow may use Google Gemini on Vertex AI to suggest a caption and details for it. Suggestions are optional, and you can edit or ignore them.
Solo mode
Before you pair with a partner, some reflections are stored only on your device and are not sent to us. Deleting the app removes them.
Device permissions
LoveVow asks for your permission before using:
- Camera, to capture moments
- Microphone, to record voice reflections
- Notifications, to remind you about your daily vow and let you know about your partner’s activity
You can change these permissions at any time in your iPhone’s Settings. If you allow notifications, we store your device’s push token privately and use Firebase Cloud Messaging (a Google service) to send them.
Purchases
LoveVow Premium is purchased and billed through Apple. We use RevenueCat to check your subscription status, so we can unlock Premium for you and your paired partner. RevenueCat receives information about your purchases and an app user identifier. We never see or store your payment card details.
Analytics and diagnostics
- Usage analytics: we use Mixpanel to understand how LoveVow is used, for example which features people use, so we can improve the app.
- Crash reports: we use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic information, such as your device model, operating system version and details of the crash, so we can fix problems.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- provide LoveVow: sign you in, pair you with your partner and sync what you share;
- personalise your daily vows and suggest captions for moments;
- send the notifications you’ve allowed;
- unlock Premium and share it with your paired partner;
- understand how LoveVow is used, fix crashes and improve the app;
- reply to your messages and give you support; and
- keep LoveVow secure, prevent misuse and meet our legal obligations.
We don’t use your information for advertising, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use it to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.
Legal bases for using your information
If you’re in the UK, the European Economic Area or another place with similar laws, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract: to provide LoveVow, including personalised vows, pairing and Premium.
- Legitimate interests: to understand usage, fix crashes, keep LoveVow secure and improve it, in ways that don’t override your rights.
- Consent: for device permissions such as camera, microphone and notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time in your iPhone’s Settings.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or share information.
How your information is shared
With your partner
When you pair with a partner, content from shared features (such as reflections once you’ve both shared, love notes, reactions and moments) is visible to them. Your onboarding answers are never shared with your partner. Premium is shared with your paired partner.
With service providers
We use trusted providers to run LoveVow. They process information on our behalf, only to provide their services to us:
- Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Storage, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Firebase Crashlytics and Gemini on Vertex AI): sign-in, storage, notifications, crash reports, and generating vows and caption suggestions.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and App Store purchases.
- RevenueCat: subscription status.
- Mixpanel: usage analytics.
For legal reasons
We may share information if we believe in good faith that it’s needed to comply with the law, respond to valid legal requests, or protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or us.
If our business changes
If we’re involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal. It will stay protected by this policy unless you’re told otherwise.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, including while you and your partner are both using LoveVow.
- If you delete your account, we delete your profile, your private data (including your onboarding answers) and the content you created, including content you shared with your partner. Your partner’s own content isn’t affected.
- How long deletion takes: we remove your data from our active systems within 30 days. Backup copies may be kept for up to a further 90 days so we can recover from errors, and are then permanently deleted.
- If you unpair but keep your account, your shared history stays saved for both of you.
- Reflections stored only on your device in solo mode stay there until you delete them or the app.
- Analytics and crash data are kept for a limited period, in line with our providers’ retention settings.
- We may keep some information longer where the law requires it.
Security
We protect your information with measures appropriate to its sensitivity. Data is encrypted in transit, and Google Cloud encrypts stored data at rest. Access rules keep your private records readable only by you and the LoveVow server. No system is completely secure, but we work hard to protect your information and review our safeguards regularly.
Children
LoveVow is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 where that is the minimum age in your country. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
International transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google Cloud, Mixpanel and RevenueCat, are based in the United States, so your information may be processed in the US and other countries whose data protection laws differ from yours. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete your information;
- receive a copy of your information in a portable format;
- object to or restrict certain uses of your information; and
- withdraw consent where we rely on it.
To delete your account, go to Settings → Delete Account in the app, or email us. For any other request, email hello@lovevow.app. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we’ll respond within the time the law requires.
You can also complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top. If the changes are significant, we’ll let you know in the app or by other appropriate means before they take effect.
